Motorola seems to be finally rolling out Android 8.1 Oreo update for Moto G5 Plus devices. But the update is only limited to devices in the United States. This comes weeks after the company rolled out the update for its Moto G5S Plus and Moto G5 devices. The rollout in the US comes almost a month after Motorola initially released the update in the Indian market and almost two months after the company initially started the soak tests for Android 8.1 Ore update for its G5 series.

The reason to conduct soak tests is to ensure that there are no bugs in the update. The thing to note here is that this update comes more than two months after Google announced its latest Android version, Android 9 Pie. This means that Android 8.1 Oreo is not even the latest version of Android for the device lineup at roll out as reported by Android Central. However, it is a much-needed update for the device owners who have been stuck on Android Nougat since launch.

According to the change-log posted by the company, the update brings new multitasking features, data saver, notification controls, battery features, Android June 1, 2018 security patch along with a number of bug fixes. Though all this is old news including the June security patch.

This rollout comes days after Google announced that smartphone makers need to ensure that their devices get at least two years of Android security updates. G5 Plus users should head to the ‘System Updates’ section in the ‘About Phone’ sub-menu in the ‘Settings’ app.
