Motorola is expected to announce the Moto G5 and G5 Plus smartphones at next month s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. But as is the case with most upcoming devices, specifications of the anticipated smartphones have already been leaked. Moto G5 Plus, likely to be the higher-priced of the two variants, is expected to be available at $300 in international markets (approximately Rs 20,400). For Indian consumers, the smartphone could make its debut as soon as March when MWC concludes, and it is likely to be priced slightly less at $230 (approximately Rs 15,600), Android Headlines reports. Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus are successors to last year s G4 and G4 Plus, and will bring in a host of improvements and upgrades. To start with, the Moto G5 Plus is expected to come with major design changes. Based on earlier leaks, the smartphone is expected to include a new rectangular home button on the front which will double up as a fingerprint sensor. At the back, the G5 Plus will have a circular camera module instead of the older pill-shaped one which was seen on its predecessor G4. Additionally, there have been reports about three different colors choices of black, silver, and gold.
Moto G5 Plus specifications
To recall, the Moto G5 Plus is expected to feature a 5.5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It is likely to be powered by a 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC paired with Adreno 506 graphics, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which could be further boosted via microSD card.
For smartphone photography enthusiasts, the G5 Plus is expected to pack a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash. For selfies, it could come with a 5-megapixel front camera. Keeping the smartphone ticking will be a 3,080mAh battery. On the software front, the G5 Plus will run the more recent Android Nougat out-of-the-box.
The Moto G5, which is expected to be the lower-priced variant of the G5 Plus, is expected to ditch some features. In all likelihood, the Moto G5 will not house a fingerprint sensor and offer 16GB of onboard storage. It is further expected that there will be a 13-megapixel rear camera, instead of the 16-megapixel seen on the G5 Plus variant. In comparison, last year s Moto G4 and G4 Plus were lower on RAM, camera, and battery among other features. For example, the G4 Plus offers 3,000mAh battery and features a 13-megapixel rear camera. In terms of chipset, the predecessors are powered by Snapdragon 617 octa-core SoC paired with 2GB of RAM with 16GB of internal storage. The G4 Plus is also available in a 3GB RAM variant with 32GB of internal storage.
There is no clarity if the newer G5 Plus will also come in two variants based on storage. We can ascertain that once Motorola executives take to stage at MWC 2017 on February 26.
