Motorola has rolled out support for Vodafone India’s VoLTE network on its latest smartphones launched in India, the Motorola Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play. The two smartphones were launched in India earlier this month, with the Moto G6 priced from Rs 13,999 onwards and the Moto G6 Play priced at Rs 11,999. Both phones already supported Reliance Jio‘s VoLTE network, but support for Vodafone’s VoLTE has just been added. Reliance Jio’s rapid growth and large customer base means that most smartphone makers present in India are ensuring support for its VoLTE network at launch itself. This is because Jio only holds 4G spectrum, and hence its use for voice calls depends on support for the service built into the smartphone. Users on the Jio network – over 186 million as of February 2018 – won’t be able to use smartphones without this support built-in. Vodafone, Airtel and other operators also hold 2G and 3G spectrum, which has so far been the default network for voice calls. Thus, support for VoLTE on other networks is not absolutely critical, as unsupported smartphones will still use the older spectrum to place the call. Nonetheless, Vodafone and Airtel have both been working with smartphone makers to ensure VoLTE support on as many devices as possible, to enhance the usage experience for customers. Motorola’s two new handsets are the latest addition to the list for Vodafone.

WATCH: VoLTE – How does it work?

Vodafone currently has its VoLTE services in various circles across the country, which includes major circles such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa. Supported devices include various popular options from brands such as Xiaomi, OnePlus, Apple, Samsung, Nokia and more. If you have a supported device and a Vodafone connection in a supported circle, you’ll be able to place voice calls using the VoLTE network, provided both users on the call are using VoLTE networks.
