The Moto G6 has just launched with prices starting at Rs 13,999. While the Moto G range has typically been the pioneer in offering quality at an affordable price, recent times have seen different brands take the lead. Xiaomi’s growing dominance along with Asus’ resurgence as a serious mid-range player are definite causes for concern for Motorola. Today, we’re comparing the newly launched Moto G6 with its two biggest competitors in the price segment, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. Take a look at the key differences between the three phones, which will help you decide which phone is best for you. Design and Display

The Moto G6 is different from the other two smartphones compared here on design thanks to one key element – glass. The Moto G6 is going the premium way, with a shiny glass back that admittedly makes it appear much more premium than its price suggests. The Asus and Xiaomi options go with a more typical metal back. All three smartphones here have 18:9 aspect ratio full-HD screens, but the Moto G6 has the smallest of the three at 5.7 inches across. As a result, it also has the highest pixel density ratio, but isn’t quite the highest in terms of screen-to-body ratio. It’s also the only phone of the three to have its fingerprint sensor at the front.

On paper, the Moto G6 falls a bit short of the competition when it comes to specifications. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC, while the two competing devices sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC. The 450 is a capable chipset, no doubt, but it’s performance is ideal for devices priced under Rs 10,000 or so. The better chipset on the Xiaomi and Asus smartphones make them better in terms of performance.

The entry-level variant of the Moto G6 comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which might seem a bit short for a device that is priced at Rs 13,999. The 4GB RAM / 64GB storage variant is more expensive at Rs 15,999, and once again, the Asus and Xiaomi options prove superior in terms of specifications. The Motorola smartphone does have a big advantage when it comes to the battery and charging though, with it being the only smartphone of the three to support fast charging. However, the Asus Zenfone has the largest battery of the three phones here, at 5,000mAh.

All three smartphones here sport dual-camera setups. The Moto G6 offers more in terms of software-based features for its dual-camera setup, which allows for depth-effect shots along with features such as color pop, selective black-and-white, and more. In comparison, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro also offer only depth-effect shots.

While the camera performance on the three phones is fairly similar, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is slightly better than the other two in terms of performance. The Moto G6 is average when it comes to photography, primarily because of its Snapdragon 450 SoC that isn’t quite as capable of the Snapdragon 636 which sports a dedicated Spectra ISP.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro also sports the best front camera, with a 20-megapixel sensor and front flash. While the Moto G6 also sports front flash, it isn’t quite as capable as the competition, purely thanks to the superior numbers backing the Xiaomi smartphone.

Pricing and availability

While the Moto G6 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro are priced similarly, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is the most affordable of the three. It’s also the best-value device here, thanks to offering a great combination of specifications and features at the lowest price. The lower-end chipset on the Moto G6 reduces the value of the deal significantly, although it is arguably the best looking device of the three and also the most compact.
