Motorola has launched its flagship offering the Moto Z2 Force in India, priced at Rs 34,999. As part of the deal, the company is bundling the TurboPower Mod with the phone, which will give buyers an immediate start into the modular ecosystem of the Moto Z-series phones. In terms of specifications, the device features top-end hardware and current-generation software as well. The phone sports the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and Moto s near-stock Android UI based on Android Oreo. You also get access to Motorola s popular Moto Experiences suite. Also Read - Lenovo Legion 5 Pro launches with Ryzen 5000 CPU, brings Legion Ultimate Support service

At its current price, the Moto Z2 Force is positioned squarely to take on the current champion of the sub-Rs 40,000 smartphone space, the OnePlus 5T. With similar specifications, pricing and positioning, the Moto Z2 Force has what it takes to challenge the OnePlus 5T, with its special features offering it that boost that will make the device that much more enticing an option. We compare the Moto Z2 Force and the OnePlus 5T, to help you choose the best option for you. Also Read - Poco F3 GT 5G vs OnePlus Nord 5G: Which one should you buy?

Display

The Moto Z2 Force sports a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED screen, which naturally sounds fantastic on the face of it. However, it s a 16:9 screen, and doesn t quite have the appeal of the taller 18:9 screen aspect ratio. Additionally, the screen s dimensions also don t afford the phone that near-bezel-less look of many of the flagship smartphones available today. In comparison, the OnePlus 5T has a lower-resolution full HD+ AMOLED display. However, it is a 6-inch 18:9 screen, with the screen occupying a larger percentage of the front. Although the Moto Z2 Force wins on resolution, the OnePlus 5T is more appealing in this case.

Specifications and Software

Both the Moto Z2 Force and OnePlus 5T are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, and also feature 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. However, OnePlus goes a notch higher with an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant, as well as a larger battery and quicker fast charging. The OnePlus 5T can go from zero to 100 percent in just about an hour, while the Moto Z2 Force takes a bit longer as it slows charging down after 85 percent.

While the Moto Z2 Force launches with Android Oreo out-of-the-box, the OnePlus 5T comes with Android Nougat (at the time of our review of the phone). However, OnePlus has already rolled out the stable OTA update for Oxygen OS 5.0 based on Android Oreo, so a quick update is all it will take to get the OnePlus 5T onto the latest software. When it comes to the user interface and experience, the competition is entirely subjective. While a lot of users may prefer the benefits of Oxygen OS, the near-stock approach by Motorola and the Moto Experiences suite are definitely big USPs for the Moto Z2 Force.

Cameras

Both the Moto Z2 Force and the OnePlus 5T feature dual-camera setups at the rear, and single-sensor front cameras. While the Moto Z2 Force uses a 12-megapixel plus 12-megapixel RGB + Monochrome arrangement, the OnePlus 5T goes with a 16-megapixel plus 20-megapixel telephoto combination. Both phones use the second sensor and software algorithms to offer portrait mode with the rear camera setup. OnePlus though also offers up to 2X lossless zoom thanks to its telephoto lens. Motorola is, however, able to leverage its monochrome sensor for somewhat better performance in low-light conditions.

The OnePlus does trump the Moto Z2 Force on front camera performance thanks to its better 16-megapixel sensor, but the Moto device features dual-tone LED flash at the front to assist in low-light selfies. Despite having a 5-megapixel front camera, the Moto Z2 Force wins a point for the presence of front flash.

Special Features

Starting with OnePlus, the 5T doesn t offer any standout features, and is a popular device simply because of what s on offer for the price. It s an all-round package with plenty of power, good software, decent cameras and an impressive screen.

The Moto Z2 Force scores a big victory over the OnePlus 5T and indeed every other smartphone available today thanks to two key features. The ShatterShield display is guaranteed to service drops and falls, and didn t break despite some rough handling during our testing.

The second big feature is its modular capability. The phone comes bundled with the TurboPower battery Mod as part of the sale, which adds the snap-on convenience of additional battery life. There are plenty of other Mods to choose from as well, all adding impressive functionality or style to the Moto Z2 Force. All of this helps the phone set itself apart from the competition.

Price

While the pricing of the higher variant of the OnePlus 5T and the Moto Z2 Force are close, it s worth noting that that the Rs 37,999 variant of the OnePlus 5T comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, as compared to the 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage on offer on the Moto Z2 Force. On many counts, the OnePlus 5T is arguably the better device as well.

However, the ShatterShield display and modular capability of the Moto Z2 Force help it stand out, as does the fact that the sale price includes the TurboPower Mod. This gives the Moto Z2 Force a unique set of differentiators that make it an interesting proposition. Additionally, the peace of mind that a shatterproof screen gives you is worth a fair amount on its own.
