The Moto G is currently the smartphone to buy if you are on a budget. It starts from $179 in the US (Motorola will reveal details about India on February 5) and was touted to provide the same experience as premium smartphones at a third of the price. Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside sees a huge opportunity in smartphones priced lower than the Moto G. In much of the world $179 is a lot of money so there s a big market at a price point of less than $179, Woodside told TrustedReviews. We re going to look at that and just delivering on that value promise is super important. I mean why can t these devices be $50? There s no reason that can t happen so we re going to push that. It is not surprising that Motorola is targeting the entry-level smartphone space considering it is now a Google-owned company. That is also a segment where tier one OEMs are not doing enough in that space and merely having a token presence. We expect a lot of action in the sub-$100 smartphone market this year and for all we know, Motorola could be the company that marks its comeback by shaking up the industry.
