The company started phasing out the 16GB variant of the Moto G towards the end of last month, while the 8GB variant has already been out of stock for quite some time now. The Moto G is quite important for Motorola as it helped the company get a foothold in the competitive smartphone market in India. Motorola after all managed to sell a million smartphones in India in less than five months. This is huge feat when you consider that Motorola chose an online-distribution model in partnership with Flipkart. As mentioned above, Motorola will host an event on September 5 in New Delhi, which will coincide with its September 4 event in Chicago. The company is believed to be unveiling the Moto 360 smartwatch, Moto X successor, as well as the smartphone that will replace the outgoing Moto G.
From what we know so far, the Moto G successor will be surprisingly called Moto G. It is said to feature a 5-inch 720p display, Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, and 1GB RAM. Also expected are dual-SIM card slots, 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
The forthcoming smartphone was also spotted on an Indian import manifest recently, which indicates that the device will be immediately available post launch. India will also be one of the first markets to get the smartphone.
