Lenovo-owned Motorola recently introduced the new M-series smartphone in China called Moto M. Now, a month later, the company has finally launched the smartphone in India. The Moto M sports a metal unibody design and it is also the company’s first smartphone to feature a fingerprint sensor at the back. Just like other Motorola smartphones, the Moto M also comes with water repellent nano coating to save it from accidental splash of water. Built-in Dolby ATMOS audio support has been one of the unique features of the Lenovo smartphones, and now, the same feature had made it to the Moto M too. At its price segment, the Moto M will compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Gionee P7 Max and Samsung Galaxy On8. Buyers can also avail launch day offers such as Rs 1,000 off on Citibank credit cards, extra Rs 2,000 off on exchanging your old smartphone, Rs 1,000 off on Moto Pulse 2 headset (available for just Rs 499) and EMI’s starting at Rs 766 per month. It is available to purchase from Flipkart, Amazon India and Mi.com/in. Gionee s P7 Max is priced at Rs 13,999 and is available to purchase via online and offline retail stores. The Galaxy On8, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 15,900 and can be purchased via online and offline retailers.

Display: All smartphones features 5.5-inch displays. While the Moto M, Redmi Note 3 and Galaxy On8 are equipped with full-HD (1080p) panels, the Gionee P7 Max features an HD (720p) panel.

Chipset, RAM and storage: Motorola’s Moto M is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P15 octa-core SoC (eight Cortex A53 cores) clocked at 2.2GHz, paired with Mali T860MP2 GPU and 4GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 32GB / 64GB of onboard storage and a microSD card slot for further expansion. The Redmi Note 3 is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 650 hexa-core SoC (two Cortex A-72 cores and four Cortex A-53 cores), paired with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. With 16GB/32GB of onboard storage, a microSD card slot is also present for further expansion. ALSO READ: Motorola Moto M: Hands-on and first impressions

The Galaxy On8 is powered by an Exynos 7580 octa-core processor SoC clocked at 1.6GHz and paired with 3GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB onboard storage and a microSD card slot for further expansion. Cameras: For shutterbugs, the Moto M and Redmi Note 3 feature a 16-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/2.0 with Phase-Detection Auto-Focus (PDAF) and dual tone LED flash. While the Moto M features an 8-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling, the Redmi Note 3 comes with 5-megapixel selfie snapper. Operating system: All four smartphones boot Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. While Moto’s UI is closer to stock, Gionee has a layer of Amigo UI, Xiaomi has MIUI 8 interface, whereas Samsung has its TouchWiz UI.

Overall, while the P7 Max misses out on fingerprint sensor, the same is present on the On8 and Redmi Note 3. Purely going by the price and specifications, the Redmi Note 3 is an all-rounder smartphone available for much lesser. As for the 64GB storage + 4GB RAM variant which is priced at Rs 17,999, you can grab the Lenovo Z2 Plus that comes with a compact form factor and powerful flagship class hardware. There is also Le Max2 for the same price, which brings a bigger and better display along with top-of-the-line hardware.
