We have come across a number of modular smartphone concepts, but only the semi-modular Moto Z series and LG G5 made it to the market. While the LG G5 featured removable modules that required turning off the phone, the Moto Z-series smartphones come with snap on accessories called Mods. Since the launch, Motorola has launched the powerbank mod, a Hasselblad camera mod with optical zoom, a portable projector and speaker mods. Now, the company has launched yet another Stereo Speaker mod for the Moto Z-range of smartphones. Priced at $59.99, which is approximately Rs 3,900, it is the fourth speaker mod from the Motorola, and also the cheapest one. Previously, the company launched the JBL Soundboost mod in 2016 for Rs 6,999, the JBL Soundboost 2 in 2017 also for Rs 6,999, and the Moto Speaker with Amazon Alexa for $150 (approximately Rs 9,800). Despite a relatively cheaper price tag, Motorola is promising powerful stereo sound (80dB at 50cm). It comes with a built-in kickstand to make it easier for viewing videos, and incorporates dual 28mm stereo speakers inside the mod. Besides listening to music, users can also use the speaker mod for hands-free calling.

One of the differences between the previously launched JBL Soundboost mod and the new speaker mod is power. The new and cheaper mod relies on the phone for power source, whereas the earlier mod featured a rechargeable battery of its own.
The new Moto Mod stereo speaker will be offered in Black, Red and Blue color variants. And as mentioned above, it is currently only available in the US and there is no word on whether or not it will be launched in India anytime soon.
