Motorola may not be a household name in the world of audio technology, but that is not stopping the company from launching an innovative new device. Lenovo-owned company has launched Motorola Sphere+, a 2-in-1 device that combines a Bluetooth speaker with an over-ear Bluetooth headphone.
Motorola Sphere+ is a first of its kind device to combine speaker and headphone, and is also the winner of CES Innovation Award at CES 2018 held last week. The device features two 8W speakers with a base that also acts as dock for the over-ear Bluetooth headphone. The headphone charges the moment it is docked on the speaker base, which has a standby time of around 200 hours.
The dock itself includes Motorola Pulse Escape Wireless over-ear headphones with noise isolation and up to 20 hours of music playback. The idea here is to let music also automatically transition from one device to the another so the music never stops playing when the user switches from headphone to speaker and vice versa.
Both the headphone as well as the dock is IP54 water and dust resistant, and each have a built-in mic for hands free calling. The headphone also supports A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), HF and AVRCP profiles to enable hands free calling and voice assistance. The Motorola Pulse Escape Wireless is compatible with both Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri. The headphones are foldable with 60 feet range and includes a 3.5mm jack for wired connection. The headphone also has touch controls on earcups to play or pause music playback and change volume.
While most audio companies have been offering wireless products to seamlessly connect with mobile devices and other portable electronic devices, the Motorola Sphere+ is a audacious attempt to make a wireless audio device that can play wireless audio at home as well as on the go. However, it needs to be tested to see how successful Motorola has been when it comes to handing off audio between two devices. Motorola Sphere+ is priced at Rs 12,999, and will be available in Black and White colors.
