Tech brands really have exceptional talent when it comes to creative ads. After Samsung’s ‘Growing Up’ ad, which took a shot at Apple iPhones since inception, Motorola has made a new ad that shoots both Apple and Samsung with the same bow. The new ‘up-upgrade’ ad starts from where the Samsung ad ends, and shows how the Moto Z2 Play with mods, is in fact, the phone to switch to. The ad begins with the protagonist, who carries the same look as the man in the Samsung ad, and enters his house with his new (presumably Samsung) device. He is seen watching a video on the phone when his friend enters and shows him how her Moto Z2 Play with the Insta-share projector mod is much efficient when it comes to watching videos together. This ends with the protagonist mesmerized with the technology, where you can simply flip out the stand of the mod and project on any wall, and the tagline ‘Up-upgrade to Motorola’. The YouTube description of the video also indicates Motorola’s push for users to not settle for edge-to-edge screen when you can project it.
In comparison, the recent Samsung ad stressed on how all the features, which Apple iPhone X boasts of, have already been present on its devices. And instead of the ugly ‘notch’, one should ‘Upgrade to Galaxy’.
Irrespective of how these tech brands see each other, the end verdict remains of the consumers. While there are some Apple loyalists, ready for upgrade to a ‘notch’ better bezel-less iPhone X, Android lovers absolutely swear by the storage expansion and dual SIM capabilities flagship Samsung Galaxy S8 lineup offers. On the other hand, some Motorola fans believe in the Lenovo-owned brand’s balance in terms of features and pricing.
For perspective, the Moto Z2 Play is priced at Rs 27,999 in India, and is equipped with a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla glass protection. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 octa-core 2.2GHz SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 2TB via microSD card. For optics, there is a 12-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.
