Motorola is all set to launch affordable 4G smartphones in India next year. The Lenovo-owned company believes that launching 4G capable smartphones in developing markets like India and Brazil will be essential for its global turnaround, Economic Times reports.

In a chat with the publication, Motorola President and CEO Rick Osterloh said, “The transition to 4G will be quick. Next year, we are going to be very aggressive in the 4G value proposition for end users.”

In India, Motorola is the fifth-largest smartphone vendor with a five percent market share, following behind the likes of Samsung, Micromax, and Karbonn and Lava at fourth place. On the global scale, post the acquisition by Lenovo, the companies are third-largest behind the likes of Samsung and Apple.

Xiaomi paved the way for affordable 4G smartphones when it announced the Redmi Note 4G in India, priced at Rs 9,999. The phablet was set to go on sale sometime this month, but the Chinese smartphone maker has faced a roadblock of sorts. The Delhi High Court ordered the company to stop importing and selling smartphones in India after patent infringement complaints from Ericsson.
