We are less than a week away from MWC 2018, and not surprisingly, leaks and rumors around upcoming smartphones are showing no signs of slowing. Sony is expected to unveil as many as three smartphones, and an alleged prototype of one of them has been spotted online. An alleged prototype of the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact has been spotted on Xperiablog. The side-profile of the device is seen in the photo, and it is kept beside a Xperia Z5 Compact. This being a prototype, chances are that the final design could be a tad different. But if this image is anything to go by, Sony s upcoming smartphones have indeed adopted a design language that is a far cry from Omnibalance.
For one, the Xperia XZ2 Compact in the image is quite a bit curvier when compared to the Xperia Z5 Compact. The fingerprint sensor too is said to have been moved to the back panel, similar to what is seen on the Xperia XA2. Lastly, the report claims that the Xperia XZ2 Compact won t feature a 3.5mm audio jack.
While this is still a prototype, quite a few aspects are in line with previous leaks. A recent FCC document too confirmed that Sony s upcoming flagship smartphones won t come with a 3.5mm audio jack. The seemingly curvier body too is in line with previous reports about Sony tweaking its design language.
Further, Sony has put out the first teaser video for its MWC 2018 event. The 20-odd seconds video clip doesn t reveal much, but you can just about guess that Sony will be launching devices that have a curved body. The video clip shows a bunch of ripples cascading down onto a palm, and it ends with the date of Sony s MWC event.
If all the rumors are to be believed, Sony is expected to unveil as many as three smartphones. Along with the flagship Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Pro, Sony will also be unveiling the Xperia XZ2 Compact. Apart from the new design language, Sony s upcoming smartphones will also feature 4K resolution OLED displays with 18:9 aspect ratio, and Qualcomm s latest Snapdragon 845 SoC. The rest of the features likely to be included are dual-camera setup, 15-megapixel selfie camera, and a battery with Quick Charge support. The upcoming smartphones are also expected to run Android Oreo out-of-the-box.
