With feature phones like Nokia 8110, Nokia 3300, JioPhone among other gaining so much popularity, Jolla has taken the opportunity to unveil the third version of what it calls ‘the world’s only alternative mobile operating system.’ At MWC 2018, Jolla announced Sailfish 3 OS, which is aimed to serve 4G feature phones exclusively. During the event, Jolla also announced Sailfish OS support for new devices, including the Sony Xperia XA2, Gemini PDA, INOI T8, and INOI T10. According to Gadgets 360, Jolla announced that the platform has extended security features and options within Sailfish 3 OS in order to make it a “solid option”. However, for a mass audience, the OS is claimed to have the capabilities to support low-specification hardware configurations and run select Android apps. “What sets Sailfish OS apart from its competitors in the feature phone segment is the capability to do low-spec hardware configurations and still run selected Android apps thanks to our unique solution,” Sami Pienimaki, CEO of Jolla, was reported as saying.
