A company best known for building sturdy vehicles is set to introduce a smartphone, which will be equally sturdy. Land Rover is reportedly planning to unveil its Explore smartphone that will be as rugged as its SUVs. This device is said to be built by Bullitt Group, the company behind CAT phones.

Bullitt teased the Land Rover Explore at an outdoor and sports trade show in Munich, and a wider announcement is expected to take place at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018) in Barcelona, Spain. The smartphone’s USP is evidently its strong build.

Crafted for the adventurers in mind, the Land Rover Explore also offers semi-modular capabilities with some added hardware. Similar to the Moto Z lineup, the Land Rover Explore also comes with snap-on mods for enhanced features. One of the notable add-ons is the Adventure Pack which adds GPS antenna, extra battery life, and an AR viewfinder for navigation, GSMArena reports.

Other specifications of the smartphone are yet to be revealed. However, as per the company, you can pre-order the Land Rover Explore starting April at a suggested retail price of €649 or £599 (approximately Rs 51,500). It is currently difficult to predict if the premium rugged phone will ever hit the Indian market.

As for the annual event, MWC 2018 will kick start on February 26 and run until March 1. A range of smartphones and new technologies will be announced at the tech show with special attractions being the Samsung Galaxy S9 lineup, Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s, LG G7, and similar announcements coming from brands including Nokia, Sony, and Asus.
