The chipmaker did not introduce SoC belonging to the Snapdragon 700 series at the event, but merely announced the platform which will include a range of chipsets in the coming days. Qualcomm said that the new series will also improve camera, device, and power performance.
Here’s a breakdown of all that the new Snapdragon 700 series will include. With on-device AI, the chipsets will come with multi-core Qualcomm AI Engine which is said to deliver up to 2x improvements for on-device AI applications compared to the Snapdragon 660 SoC.
The architecture of the new chipsets will include the Hexagon Vector Processor, Adreno Visual Processing subsystem, and Kryo CPU, which will work in cooperation to ‘learn voice and speech’, improve the ease of taking photos and videos, and enhance battery life without changing applications or settings. The new architecture is said to offer 30 percent better power efficiency and better battery life across various applications. This essentially means manufacturers leveraging these new chipsets will be able to deliver camera and AI centric smartphones which will also be easy on the pockets.
As for camera improvements, it is not clear which version of the ISP will be included in the Snapdragon 700 series but the company said that the consumers should expect professional graded camera features which will be supported by high-quality specs.
One of the most interesting aspects of the new Snapdragon 700 series is that it will come with support for the next-gen Quick Charge 4+ standard which has engineered to get up to 50 percent charge in only 15 minutes. The new SoCs will further include support for advanced set of wireless technologies including ultra-fast LTE, carrier Wi-Fi features, enhanced Bluetooth 5 multicast audio and ultra-low power wireless earbud support.
