Mysterious island spotted on Google Maps could be UFO landing site, if conspiracy theorists are to be believed

The island is so perfectly circular and rotating, that some people believe it to be alien. Okay, then.

A rather strange island discovered near Buenos Aires in Argentina has once again sparked theories of a UFO landing site. The ‘rotating island’ is a free-floating patch of land on an otherwise circular lake that alien hunters and conspiracy theorists believe is either a UFO landing site or a secret portal to an alien world. This group of people believe so because the island and lake are ‘too perfectly shaped’ to have formed naturally. The lake was discovered on Google Maps, and has since been explored and photographed. You can find the lake at these coordinates on Google Maps: 34°15’07.8’S 58°49’47.4″W.

A team of curious explorers set out to find the actual site last year, in a story covered by the Mirror. Upon discovering the lake, the explorers found both the island and lake to be near-perfect circles, and the water to be incredibly clear and cold, unlike anything else in the vicinity. The area is surrounded by swampy marshes, and the island itself floats on the lake.

Conspiracy theorists believe the lake to be a hiding place for an alien spacecraft, which can be hidden inside. The floating island on top could therefore be a ‘lid’ of sorts, protecting the supposed ‘dock’. If you’ve heard a more kooky theory about an admittedly unusually shaped lake and island, we’re keen to hear more.

Alien hunters are usually considered the most interesting people to talk to, because of their tendency to come up with audacious theories and stories. Another popular site believed to be hiding aliens is Area 51, located in the Nevada desert in the United States of America. We at BGR believe that even if there are aliens visiting Earth, they’re probably doing a better job of hiding and wouldn’t stow their spacecrafts in oddly shaped lakes. Or in the words of Calvin and Hobbes creator Bill Watterson, the best proof of extra-terrestrial intelligence is that they haven’t contacted us.
