Apple has no plans to do away with the iPod family just yet, and instead has now improved it to bring them on par with the iPhones. As expected, today Apple launched a new iPod touch with improved features and specifications, and prices starting at Rs 18,900.
The new iPod touch gets a bump in specifications including an 8-megapixel rear camera, up from 5-megapixels on its predecessor. The rear camera comes with f/2.4 aperture, while the 1.2-megapixels FaceTime HD camera has improved picture quality. Apple has also added support for slo-mo and burst mode photography as well, similar to what is offered on the iPhones.
Under the hood is an A8 processor with 64-bit capabilities, again similar to what is on offer on the iPhones. Paired with the processor is an M8 coprocessor that will take care of functions like activity tracking.
On the software front, the iPod touch runs on the latest iOS 8.4. In other words, it comes bundled with Apple Music out-of-the-box. Apple s latest music streaming service boasts over 30 million songs, along with a 24/7 global radio called Beats 1, which includes some experienced talents like BBC s Zane Lowe. Along with her, artists like Dr. Dre, Will I Am, Pharrell, and Drake among others will help curate music playlists for listeners.
To let users get a taste of it before they actually pay, Apple is offering three month free trial of Music. When the trial period ends, users in India will have to pay Rs 120 per month for individual accounts, and Rs 190 per month for a family account (for up to six members).
“iPod touch gives customers around the world access to Apple Music, the App Store and iOS, the world s most advanced mobile operating system, starting at just INR 18,900 said Greg Joswiak, Apple s vice president of iPhone, iPod and iOS Product Marketing. With big advancements like the A8 chip and the 8 megapixel iSight camera, customers can experience next-level gameplay, take even more beautiful photos and enjoy their favourite music, TV shows and movies.
The new iPod touch has gone on sale in India as well, with prices starting at Rs 18,900 for the 16GB model. The 32GB variant is priced at Rs 22,900, and Apple has also introduced a 64GB model priced at Rs 26,900. It is available in colors including space gray, silver, gold, pink, and blue.
