In both the videos, Idea Cellular doesn t promote any specific tariff plan or scheme but stresses that over 19 crore subscribers are using the network. On one hand, Idea is criticising Jio s freebies, and on the other the company is hosting an event on January 30 to announce its suite of content services. Under its Digital Idea apps suite, the company will offer movies, TV shows, music, and gaming apps among other such services. The apps suite will be competing with the Reliance Jio apps that include JioCinema, JioTV, and JioMusic among others. The Jio apps are preinstalled with Reliance s own range of LYF smartphones.
To recall, when Reliance announced the commercial roll out of Jio, it came with a Welcome Offer that gave users free unlimited data, voice and video calls, and messaging on its network. As soon as the Welcome Offer ended on December 31, 2016, the company has now introduced the Happy New Year Offer which is valid till March 31, 2017. The freebies remain the same, with the only difference being in the FUP limit, which is slashed to 1GB than the earlier limit of 4GB. It will be interesting to see how Idea Cellular s claimed 19 crore subscribers stand against Jio s 72.4 million users (as of January 17, 2017) after the new suite of apps are announced.
