Although they’re non-prescription, they do provide full UV ray protection and are available in a choice of 14 tint colors and mirrored finishes. “With these new sun lenses, we want to bring something fun and stylish to smart glasses,” commented Patrick Ho, CEO of Rochester Optical. “The wearer can customize our sun lenses to his or her liking and express individuality — bringing style and art to the technology. We think we have achieved that.” Also Read - Apple Glasses might come earlier than expected, may launch in 2021
Whether the fashion crowd embraces them remains to be seen, however they’re a significant improvement on the standard screw-in and clip-on shades that Google was offering to Google Glass early adopters a year ago. Rochester’s range consists of eight frame styles that differ subtly in terms of bridge and lens shape, but all styles come to the same $179.00 and can be specified in a choice of 10 colors and finishes. Once selected, you can also pick one of the aforementioned 14 lens tints. Also Read - Google working on standalone AR headset 'Google A65': Report
The new frames and shades are available to order globally — even though Google Glass itself is only officially available in the US and UK — and are a more affordable way of adding style and having augmented reality fun in the sun than the recently launched collection of Diane von Furstenberg-designed frames. They officially went on sale in the US on June 23 priced at $1,725 for frames with prescription lenses and $1,620 for sunglasses.
