Samsung is reportedly working on a new Gear VR headset and is expected to launch it along with the Galaxy Note 7 next month. The VR device has been spotted on Indian import and export website Zauba. The latest model is likely to come with minor changes as compared to existing Gear VR headset. The new Gear VR bears the model number SM-R323. It is worth mentioning here that the first Innovator Edition for the Galaxy Note 4 had the model number SM-320, while the first Innovator Edition for the Galaxy S6 came with SM-321 model number. According to the Zauba listing, the new Gear VR will come with USB Type-C port. It is worth pointing out that the Galaxy Note 7 is also rumored to come with the USB Type-C port, which will make it incompatible with the older Gear VRs. It would also be the first Samsung smartphone to come with a USB Type-C port, which could explain why Samsung is likely to push out a new VR that is compatible with its future smartphones.
Besides the model number and USB Type-C support, there aren’t a lot of details available about the new VR device. Samsung is rumored to hold an unpacked event on August 2 to showcase its next generation Galaxy Note smartphone. Though the company hasn’t officially revealed anything in this regard so far, there are already plenty of leaked details about the smartphone.
One of the hottest rumors is that the Note 7 will come with an iris scanner as an extra layer of security. The smartphone may also come in a more expensive variant featuring a dual-camera setup. Other leaked details about the smartphone include a QHD Super AMOLED display,12-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front cameras, and 64GB onboard storage.
