Apple is holding a launch event on September 9 where it is expected to unveil the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus alongside the 12.4-inch iPad Pro. The next-gen Apple TV is also expected to be launched with refreshed hardware and more intuitive software.
The next-gen Apple TV is expected to become available in October with a hefty price tag slightly under between $149 – $200 (approximately between Rs 9,500 to Rs 12,500), reports 9to5Mac. At this price point, the next-gen Apple TV will cost double compared to the current model that sells for $69 (approximately Rs 4,550).
To differentiate itself from its predecessor, the next-gen Apple TV is expected to come with a host of new features, such as support for Siri, an App Store with SDK (Software Development Kit) for developers and a new remote control. It is also expected to come with a faster processor and a completely refreshed interface.
Sources close to 9to5Mac also point that Apple is planning to release a cable-replacing streaming TV with multiple television channels for as low as $40 per month (approximately Rs 2,500). However, for unlocking the content, users will be required to login with their credentials on the new Apple TV.
The software update is also expected to be rolled out for the current Apple TV, to enable this cable-replacement service. While features such as App Store and Siri aren’t expected to come to the latest Apple TV, we expect to get more details on Apple’s September 9 event.
