When Samsung launched the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge earlier this year, the company also announced the Gear VR headset for these smartphones. According to CNET, Samsung s CEO JK Shin has confirmed that the third generation Gear VR headset will be launched soon. While he declined to comment on the launch date, it is expected that Samsung could showcase the new Gear VR headset at the IFA event in Berlin on September 3. Samsung has already teased the highly anticipated circular smartwatch Gear S2, which is set to launch at the same event. The first generation of Gear VR headset was created in collaboration with Facebook’s Oculus and it was only compatible with the Galaxy Note 4. While the second generation headset was tailored to work with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, the latest version is expected to work with the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+.
The previous two versions of Gear VR headsets were priced at $199.99 (approximately Rs 13,000), and the new headset is expected to be sold in the same price bracket.
