The frenzy around the new iPhones and the Apple Watch has barely subsided, and seems like Apple is already preparing for another major announcement. According to a report on The Daily Dot, Apple will be hosting an event on October 21, where it is said to be launching the next-generation iPad Air, iPad mini and also release OS X Yosemite.
The publication says,
On the heels of announcing two new iPhones and teasing the Apple Watch, Apple has a bit more to say. The company is planning to hold its next event on Oct. 21, where it will unveil two new iPads and announce the release of OS X Yosemite, the next version of its Mac operating system, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Apple has hosted events around this time in the past two years, wherein it unveiled new iPads and the latest OS X. Last year, Apple announced the iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and also introduced the new Mac Pro and updated MacBook Pro models.
This year, Apple is expected to unveil the iPad Air 2, and the next-generation iPad mini. From what we know so far, the iPad Air 2 will be thinner than before and will feature small design changes including single row speaker grille, and buttons that are more recessed into the iPad’s frame. On the front, it will be the first Apple tablet to boast a TouchID fingerprint scanner, full-lamination touch panel, and an anti-reflective screen coating. On the inside, it is likely to be powered by the new A8 processor powering the new iPhones, and 2GB of RAM, which double of what is offered on the first-generation model. The next-generation iPad mini too will boast a fingerprint scanner, A8 processor and an 8-megapixel camera.
Apple unveiled OS X Yosemite at WWDC earlier this year, which brings in a major overhaul in design, as well as introducing new features. The operating system is flatter than before and is more in line with its iOS counterpart. It also introduces new features like a Today View in notification center, iCloud Drive in Finder, Handoff, and Continuity among others. A detailed list of all new features can be found here.
