While all eyes are on Apple s big event on tomorrow, let s not forget that Google too has something up its sleeves that it plans on revealing a day before the Cupertino-based giant. Forbes contributor Jay McGregor cites his sources who all but confirm that Google will be releasing Android L, alongside the Motorola-built Nexus 6, and the HTC-built Nexus 9 tablet. Unlike Apple however, Google will not be hosting a major event. Instead it will quietly announce the devices and the Android OS via a blog post. The company is said to be still in the process of fine tuning Android L, and doesn t want to host any events until the platform is refined. McGregor says that post the announcement, the Nexus 9 will be up for preorders on October 17, before it is available on November 3. The tablet will be the first device to run on Android L. The 16GB variant is said to cost $399 (Rs 24,500 approximately), while the 32GB LTE variant will be priced at $499 (Rs 30,600 approximately). These prices fall in line with earlier rumors.
The report also confirms that much of what has leaked about the tablet in terms of specifications is true. So essentially, we can expect an 8.9-inch (2048×1440 pixels) display, Nvidia Tegra K1 processor, 2GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, and 3-megapixel front-facing camera.
McGregor has also revealed that the tablet will come with a range of accessories, including an Origami magnetic case. This case can apparently fold in all directions and can be bent into any shape to prop the tablet up.
The report is light in terms of information on the Nexus 6 smartphone. But from what we know so far, the Motorola-built Nexus 6 looks like a bigger version of the Moto X (second generation). As for specifications, it is expected to come with a 5.9-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, 13-megapixel camera with OIS, and a 3,200mAh battery.
