Meanwhile, the company has also announced that its Mario Kart series of racing video game will be extended to the mobile platform by next year. Nintendo is working on the app called Mario Kart Tour, which will be released in the next fiscal year, ending March 2019.
The series of announcements come on the heels of Nintendo’s impressive sale of its Switch consoles. The company sold 14.86 million consoles along with about half as many copies of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The gaming app Mario Kart Tour will add to Nintendo’s list of smartphone games as the company decided to move beyond gaming consoles.
Nintendo had planned to have released five smartphone games by 2017, however, it managed to get only four titles out including the Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and Miitomo social app. The company is said to be working on another mobile game titled Legend of Zelda, along with a new Pok mon game for Switch.
For the larger screen, Nintendo is also working on live-action movie adaptation titled Detective Pikachu. The movie is based on the Nintendo 3DS video game with the same title that released in 2016, and will be co-produced by Universal Pictures. It is likely to arrive in the US and Japan on May 10, 2019. Ryan Reynolds, who played the role of Wade Wilson in Deadpool, will play the lead in the movie.
