At Nintendo Switch’s reveal event, the company teased some new games that will be available for the console. Along with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Just Dance 2017, Project Sonic 2017, Dragon Quest X, Splatoon 2, Yooka-Laylee, Stardrew Valley, Lego City Undercover, Nintendo also teased a new Super Mario game for the console, called the Super Mario Odyssey. And this new Super Mario game has the internet reminiscing the Grand Theft Auto.
First revealed back in October 2016, the Super Mario Odyssey features the Italian plumber in a more ‘badass’ incarnation, if I may say so. In this new game you see Mario running past the turtles, mushrooms, dragons and pipes, to a more realistic city, with zooming cars, taxi cabs, commuters, in a bustling city. And if you see it, you are sure to be reminded of the Grand Theft Auto, just that the car-stealing burglar has here been replaced with our cute little plumber.
Now, we are not sure we’ll see the princess-rescuer mugging people, and stealing cars, but the trailer made for a fair bit of Twitter humor around whatever Nintendo’s mascot will be up to in the city.
Super Mario Odyssey looks so dope. It’s like if grand theft auto had a baby with sonic adventure and toad was watching 🤔🤔

Other than this GTA look-alike setup, Nintendo also revealed a whole bunch of new locales and power ups. There will be a dense forest, a shanty town and plenty of other new worlds for Mario to travel through. There is also a large sandbox world, where you would see Mario travelling in a big flying vehicle, similar to a spaceship. Plus, there will be tons of new enemies for him to fight off in the new game, along with a bunch of new friends who will help him on his quest. One of the friend will be a special cap that Mario himself wears, which has eyes to see the world with.
Super Mario Odyssey is believed to be a successor to Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy, in which Mario navigates large and explorable spaces. It’s the first new Mario platformer to hit consoles since Super Mario 3D World, which launched in 2013.
Talking about the gaming console the Super Mario Odyssey has been launched for, Nintendo Switch is a fresh take on the existing consoles like the Sony PlayStation 4 or Microsoft’s Xbox One. The Nintendo Switch amalgamates traditional gaming with new technology. Basically, you can use Switch as a normal gaming console when docked, with a set of wireless controller, and with the output on the TV set, however, as the name suggests, it also lets you undock and continue playing games like a handheld device (somewhat like a Gameboy). The Nintendo Switch will go on sale on March 3, and will be priced at $299.99, which roughly translates to Rs 20,500.
