Xiaomi s flagship device, the Mi Note 2, had been one highly anticipated smartphone this year. Xiaomi went all out with the Mi Note 2 giving it the best features possible. Xiaomi s first smartphone with dual-edge curved display, the Mi Note 2 also became the company s fastest selling smartphone with stocks running out in just 50 seconds. Post the launch, a few reports surfaced online claiming that the company was working on a new variant of the Mi Note 2, which would feature a flat-screen. However, it now seems like there won t be any such variant being launched by Xiaomi. This information comes straight from Xiaomi s Marketing Director Zang Zhiyuan on the company s official blog. He confirmed that there won t be any flat-screened variant of the Mi Note 2. This expected variant was supposedly going to be lower priced than the Mi Note 2 with dual-edge curved display. But he said that launching an affordable variant of the Mi Note 2 would affect the sales of the Mi Note 2 in the high-end smartphone market. He added that it would also hamper the entry of Xiaomi into the high-end smartphone market. The Mi Note 2, priced at RMB 3,499 (approximately Rs 35,000), is one of Xiaomi s most expensive smartphones so far.
Although this will disappoint Mi fans, the pricing of the Mi Note 2 is still quite remarkable in terms of the smartphone s specifications and features. In fact, the Mi Note 2 goes head-to-head with the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge not only with similarities in design and look but in totality. Xiaomi s Mi Note 2 battles it out with the Galaxy S7 edge in the departments of display, hardware, camera and battery. The Mi Note 2 also has an upper hand in terms of pricing, as the Galaxy S7 edge currently stands at a price of Rs 50,900. However, the Galaxy S7 edge is also one of Samsung s most popular smartphones which is currently sustaining the company s falling reputation. Xiaomi had also recently confirmed that the Mi Note 2 will not be making its way to India. ALSO READ: Xiaomi Mi Note 2 vs Samsung Galaxy S7 edge: Price, specifications and features compared
