Even as smartphones are increasingly becoming popular, India still has a large base of feature phone users. The research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) reports that 33.7 million units of features had been shipped in Q2 2016 which made a 2.6 percent growth over last year’s results. This goes on to say that feature phones still hold a strong presence in the Indian mobile phone market and feature phones are slowly packing in important features to cope up with the fast growing internet generation. Microsoft, which still sells feature phones under Nokia branding, is capitalizing this segment with a new feature phone. Called the Nokia 216 Dual SIM, the phone is priced at Rs 2,495 and will be available starting next month. The Nokia 216 Dual SIM is available in three colors black, grey and blue.
This is the first Nokia feature phone that Microsoft has launched this year. The last Nokia feature phone was the Nokia 230 Dual SIM, which launched in December last year. It was priced at Rs 3,869 last December. The Nokia 216 Dual SIM comes with a few offers packed with it. Nokia 216 Dual SIM users can download one free Gameloft game every month for a year. It is worth pointing out here that the Nokia 216 Dual SIM could be the last of the feature phones launched by Microsoft. The company earlier this year reached an agreement to sell the company’s entry-level feature phone assets to FIH Mobile Ltd, a subsidiary of Hon Hai/Foxconn Technology Group, and HMD Global Oy.
