HMD Global CPO Juho Sarvikas has confirmed that the Nokia 3 smartphone will receive Android 7.1.1 Nougat update by end of August. It is worth noting that Nokia 3 is only HMD Global’s smartphone for purchase in India, though the company had announced the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones as well but are yet to go on sale. The Nokia 3 had launched in India with Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. The latest announcement is in line with HMD Global s promise that it will regularly update its smartphones. Already, the company has rolled out updates for its other smartphones in select markets. As far as Android 7.1.1 Nougat goes, Google had started rolling out the update in November last year. The update brings a few changes to the UI such as a new circular icon look for the launcher and a long press app shortcut menu.
With the update, Nokia 3 users can expect features such as multi-window app support, power-saving Doze feature, and background system updates. An interesting feature is instant apps allow users to begin using or testing an app within Google Play Store before downloading it. There s also a new storage manager and image plus GIF support for the AOSP keyboard.
While HMD Global‘s other smartphones are yet to hit the shelves in India, the company has been focusing on its Nokia 3 smartphone, which is also the cheapest of the lot with a price tag of Rs 9,499. Recently, HMD Global partnered with Home Credit India to offer zero-interest EMI scheme on the purchase of Nokia 3. The smartphone is available in multiple retail outlets across the country.
