Alongside the launch of Nokia 6.1 Plus, HMD Global also introduced Nokia 5.1 Plus for the Indian market. The smartphone is the second device from the Finnish company to feature a notched display. It joins the existing lineup which already includes the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 5.1, and Nokia 6.1.
At the event, Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global said the Nokia 6.1 Plus and 5.1 Plus were first launched in China, but were designed with Indian market in mind. Sarvikas added that these smartphones have already become best-selling smartphones in the Chinese market. The devices will become available exclusively on Flipkart. Ajey Mehta, VP of HMD Global India told that Nokia 1 has become the best-selling smartphone in the sub-Rs 5,000 price segment.
Nokia 5.1 Plus price and offers
HMD Global has launched the Nokia 5.1 Plus without revealing the official India price. The smartphone retails for €199 (around Rs 15,800), but should be priced under Rs 15,000 since the Nokia 6.1 Plus is priced at Rs 15,999. The smartphone will be available in September via Nokia’s own website, and Flipkart. The Nokia 5.1 Plus will be available in blue, black and white colors

Like the Nokia 6.1 Plus, the Nokia 5.1 Plus also features a notched display and glass back. It features a glass at the front as well as rear, and a plastic frame enforced with metal and nanocoating like the Nokia 7 plus. It sports a 5.8-inch display with a HD+ resolution of 1520×720 pixels, and taller 19:9 aspect ratio.
The smartphone is powered by MediaTek Helio P60 chipset coupled with Mali-G72 MP3 for graphics performance. The Nokia 5.1 Plus will be available in two storage variants – 3GB RAM variant with 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM variant with 64GB storage. It supports dual rear camera setup with a combination of 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel image sensors. At the front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie shooter with f/2.2 aperture.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus is an Android One-branded smartphone that runs Android 8.1 Oreo, and has been certified for enterprise users. At the event, Sarvikas also confirmed that the smartphone will be updated to Android 9 Pie sometime this year, and will be among first to get the new Digital Wellbeing feature. The smartphone features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and is backed by 3,060mAh battery.
