HMD Global recently started teasing a new Nokia smartphone launch for India. The company has now rolled out official invites for August 21 press event in the country where it is expected to launch the Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone.
The Nokia 6.1 Plus, which is the global variant of Nokia X6, was launched in China in May. The smartphone sale was extended beyond China with its launch in Hong Kong. A couple of weeks back, an alleged user guide of the Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone was spotted on Nokia India’s website along with SAR details hinting towards an imminent launch.
While Nokia 6.1 Plus is currently available only in Hong Kong at a priced tag of HKD 2,288 (approximately Rs 20,000), it is more or less clear that HMD Global is now bringing it to India on August 21.
We are not sure of the price, but looking at the Hong Kong pricing it seems that Nokia might want to price it competitively here in India because of popular competitors like Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.
The Nokia 6.1 Plus is part of Android One program, and it runs Android 8.1 Oreo. The company has confirmed two major software updates, and three years of security updates for all its devices.
Nokia 6.1 Plus Specifications and Features
The highlight of Nokia 6.1 Plus is the 5.8-inch LCD display with a notch, and resolution of 2280×1080 pixels. The notch on the Nokia 6.1 Plus is similar to most other smartphones in the market, and it hides the front camera and other sensors. The notch also results in taller 19:9 aspect ratio, which is taller than 18:9 aspect ratio found on most budget smartphone displays.
Powering the device is the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 mobile CPU with Adreno 509 GPU. The processor is the same as the one found under the hood of the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus comes standard with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, but HMD Global might offer other storage variants to better compete with its rivals. There is also dual rear camera setup comprising of a 16-megapixel f/2.0 main sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor with f/2.2 aperture. At the front, the Nokia 6.1 Plus gets a 16-megapixel selfie shooter with 1 micron pixel size and f/2.0 aperture. The smartphone is backed by a 3,060mAh battery.
