HMD Global is set to launch Nokia 6.1 Plus, the global variant of Nokia X6, today in India. The Finnish company has sent media invites for an event in the national capital, which is set to start at 11.30AM IST. The smartphone is already being teased as a Flipkart exclusive, and might just arrive alongside the Nokia 5.1 Plus.

With the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus, HMD Global is preparing to challenge the likes of Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, Realme 1, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, and Redmi Note 5 Pro. Both Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus use glass at the front as well as rear, which gives it a premium look. They also feature a notch, which is becoming a common trend for 2018. HMD Global has been growing steadily in the global markets, and with the new Plus models, it aims to garner market share in the Indian market dominated by sales in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment.

Nokia 6.1 Plus India launch: How to watch the livestream

The event is set to start at 12PM IST, and those interested can watch the livestream on Nokia Mobile’s YouTube account or any of its social media handles. While HMD Global was initially expected to launch the Nokia 6.1 Plus only, the new teaser suggests the company might also announce the Nokia 5.1 Plus in India. Flipkart is teasing the launch with the hashtag #TwoOfAKind, which might be related to brand partnership or two different kinds of smartphones.

Nokia 6.1 Plus specifications and features

Nokia 6.1 Plus was first launched as Nokia X6 in China, and it is the first device from the company to embrace the notch. It features a 5.8-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels, and taller 19:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset coupled with Adreno 509 GPU.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus was launched with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, and support for expandable storage up to 400GB via hybrid SIM slot. It features dual rear camera setup with 16-megapixel main sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. At the front, the Nokia 6.1 Plus gets a 16-megapixel selfie shooter with 1 micron pixel size and f/2.0 aperture.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus is an Android One-branded smartphone that runs Android 8.1 Oreo, and will be updated to Android 9 Pie sometime this year. It is backed by a 3,060mAh battery, and is expected to arrive in black and white colors.

Nokia 6.1 Plus expected price in India

The specifications of Nokia 6.1 Plus clearly suggest that the smartphone is aimed to compete with Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. Considering that HMD Global recently slashed the price of Nokia 6.1 in India, the new device should be priced under Rs 20,000.
