Nokia 6.1 Plus to get Android 9 Pie update soon, HMD Global completes beta test

Nokia 6.1 Plus could be the next device from HMD Global to receive Google’s latest version of Android. The Finnish company has marked the Android Pie beta testing for the smartphone as complete, suggesting the official update might begin as early as the end of this month.

HMD Global is among the few companies to issued Android 9 Pie update for its smartphones. The company has released Android Pie update for Nokia 7 plus and had confirmed that the update will be released for other devices by the end of this year. It has now started sending mail to those who joined Nokia 6.1 Plus Android Pie beta program thanking them for their feedback and confirming that the final update should roll out soon.

“Many thanks for being part of the Android 9 Pie Nokia phones beta labs program with your Nokia 6.1 Plus. Thanks to your valuable feedback, the official release will soon be ready and available to millions of users. Once Android 9 is approved by your operator, it will be automatically pushed to you via OTA,” the company said, according to Nokiapoweruser.

At the launch of Nokia 3.1 Plus, HMD Global confirmed that Nokia 5.1 Plus will join company’s Android 9 Pie roadmap soon. It plans to get all of its devices on latest version of Android by the end of this year. Android Pie brings a number of features that will shape the future of Android for devices with tall display and thin bezels.

One of the standout feature is called Digital Wellbeing, which lets you track the amount of time spent using the device. The feature is meant to help you regain control on your digital life. Nokia 7 plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus are among the first non-Pixel devices to get the Digital Wellbeing feature.

Other enhancements include adaptive display and battery that use your usage pattern to tweak settings. There is also a new gesture-based interface that has been designed with taller displays in mind. Other improvements can be seen in settings menu, notifications panel and general user interface.
