In tune with leaks, HMD Global launched today the second generation Nokia 6 in China. The new Nokia 6 (2018) carries a price tag of RMB 1,499 (approximately Rs 14,600) for the base model with 3GB of RAM, and RMB 1,699 (approximately Rs 16,600) for the 4GB RAM model. It will be up for sale in China starting January 10. As of now, there is no information if the new 2018 edition will be made available in other markets, including India. Nokia 6 (2018) is evidently an upgrade over last year’s model with improved innards, and a better design. One of the major improvements is the chipset Nokia 6 (2018) is equipped with a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 630 SoC as opposed to Snapdragon 430 SoC which powered the older model. There’s also a bump in RAM and storage, as you now have the option of 4GB RAM+64GB internal storage. Other specifications include a 5.5-inch full HD LCD display, 3,000mAh battery with fast charging support, and storage expansion up to 128GB via microSD card. In terms of optics, the 2018 edition continues to feature a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, dual-tone LED flash, and phase detection autofocus. Up front, there’s an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture. The phone retains the support for dual-sight video, which utilizes both the cameras for social media streaming or video calling.
Despite being an upgrade, the Nokia 6 (2018) continues to run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. However, the company is promising Android 8.0 Oreo update in the near future. Other features include OZO audio support.
If launched in India at the given price, the Nokia 6 (2018) will compete against the likes of Xiaomi Mi A1, which is priced at Rs 12,999 and boasts a dual-camera setup with a pair of 12-megapixel sensors, Motorola Moto G5S+, which is priced at Rs 14,999 and packs dual 13-megapixel cameras. There’s also the new Honor 7x, which is priced at Rs 12,999.
