HMD Global, the Finnish company that holds exclusive rights to manufacture and licence Nokia-branded mobile phones, launched the Nokia 8 in India earlier this year. The company’s first proper flagship smartphone, the Nokia 8 has since been superseded by Nokia 8 Sirocco. However, like all other smartphones in its line-up HMD Global continues to support its erstwhile standard-bearer with relevant updates.

The company has now begun seeding another small (albeit important) update to Nokia 8. According to a report by NPU, Nokia 8 units in selected markets (Netherlands and Nigeria, as of now) are receiving the September 2018 security patch via an OTA update. Among other fixes, the update includes a patch for a critical system vulnerability that could enable the execution of arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process remotely.

Weighing 80.2MB in size, the update, like all OTA rollouts, will likely take some time to reach all Nokia 8 smartphones across the world.

In related news, HMD Global is all set to launch Nokia 5.1 Plus in India. The company initially put up teasers on social media, which led to reports about a possible Nokia gaming smartphone. The tweet has since been taken down, and a teaser page on Flipkart has revealed a bit about the upcoming device – Nokia 5.1 Plus.

It’s worth mentioning that Nokia 5.1 Plus was launched in India last month. However, at that time, the company had not revealed its price. The same will be revealed on September 24 at 2:00PM, when Nokia 5.1 Plus goes on sale exclusively on Flipkart.
