There is no dearth of leaks regarding the upcoming Nokia 8. Even as HMD Global is yet to officially declare the existence of the smartphone, the rumor mill is abuzz with all kinds of speculations. The latest to do the rounds on the internet are two images which are said to be promotional materials for the purported smartphone, suggesting bezel-less display design and an iris scanner. Spotted by Chinese outlet CNMO.com, the brochure for the Nokia 8 shows off a very distinct looking smartphone. Even as the overall form factor is reminiscent of the older Lumia smartphones, there is a bezel-less display on the front which brings about the major design change. By far, all the three Nokia-branded Android smartphones including the Nokia 3, 5, and 6 feature a rather standard display design. However, if the latest images are to be considered then the Nokia 8 could feature a slightly curved bezel-less display. The images further point to a Type-C port at the bottom, placed alongside what look like stereo speakers. The second image indicates that despite the Type-C port, the standard 3.5mm headphone jack has been kept intact in the Nokia 8. In addition to a new display design, the images suggest that the smartphone could be available in color choices of black, blue, grey, and purple.
What draws further attention to the promotional material is that it mentions the existence of an iris scanner and metal diamond carving solutions written in Chinese. Now it is unclear if iris scanning will be the only biometric authentication feature on the Nokia 8 as the leaked images do not detail the existence of any home button or a dedicated fingerprint sensor. Interestingly, the latest images also contradict a product video that was leaked a couple of months ago. Based on the video, the Nokia 8 could pack a dual rear camera module which will sit in the middle. However, the new image shows off a rear panel with what looks like a camera module placed on the left side.
Other than these leaked specifications, the Nokia 8 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 SoC and boast a 5.7-inch quad HD AMOLED display. The dual camera module is said to support 4K video recording and run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. Earlier, it was rumored to be launched in June this year, but that did not happen. So, we can expect the flagship smartphone to be announced sometime later this year when Apple and Samsung are also likely to introduce their premium handsets.
