There are already a bunch of Nokia smartphones lined for a launch by the end of this week. The Nokia 1, Nokia 9, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 4 are expected to be launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. However, in the middle of all the MWC speculation, a new report comes in that reveals that HMD Global is simultaneously working on a slightly higher variant of the Nokia 8 – the Nokia 8 Pro.
Per the report, the purported Nokia 8 Pro will be powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC and will be launched by sometime at the end of the year. Some reports also speculate that the Nokia 8 Pro could just be the Nokia smartphone with Penta-lens that we heard of earlier this month.
There is also a render image leaked, which is believed to be of the Nokia 8 Pro. The image given reveals that the smartphone will have an advanced camera module, and that’s where the Penta-lens Nokia phone speculation comes from.
The render reveals a circular emboss that houses the cameras, LED flash, and another black dot, which likely signifies a sensor. We can also see that there is a fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone, meaning that the Nokia 8 Pro will not be accompanied by an in-display fingerprint reader. Other specifications of the flagship are currently unknown, but it has been revealed that the phone will have an 18:9 aspect ratio.
Further, at the upcoming MWC, another variant of the Nokia 8 is expected. Called the Nokia 8 Sirocco aka Nokia 9, is likely to garner most attention as there still remains a lack of clarity as to whether it will be a variant of the current Nokia 8 or be labeled as Nokia 9, thereby taking the Nokia Android phone series to its next step.
From what the rumors point at, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is believed to be a high-end smartphone running the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC under the hood. It is likely to pack a 5.5-inch quad HD resolution, 3D glass OLED display. The dual cameras on the smartphones are likely to include ZEISS-certified combination of a 12-megapixel sensor and a 13-megapixel sensor. Up front, there might be a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone is expected to arrive with IP67 certified dustproof and waterproof chassis.
