HMD Global is reportedly planning on resurrecting another iconic Nokia series. The Sirocco brand takes us back to 2006, when the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition was launched. Basically a premium variant of the Nokia 8800, this featured sapphire glass, and also came with a leather cased bundled with the device. At the time, the Nokia 8800 Sirocco was the most expensive device in the company s portfolio.
Similarly, the Nokia 8 Sirocco could be a trendier and more expensive version of the Nokia 8 Android smartphone. Based on reports, this variant could come with an OLED display (sourced from LG), dual-selfie cameras, and more storage. The rest of the specifications are likely to remain the same as the original Nokia 8.
Having said that, the model number TA-1005 has so far been associated with the rumored Nokia 9. This flagship smartphone is widely expected to be unveiled at MWC 2018. The only thing to do right now would be to wait for the tech expo later this month.
Interestingly, Sirocco isn t the only line HMD Global seems interested in. Last month, a report surfaced online about the company trademarking the Asha name. If you remember, the Asha lineup consisted of ‘smart’ feature phones. Ever since the report, there are speculations that HMD Global could use the Asha branding to launch ultra-affordable smartphones.
