Nokia 8 vs OnePlus 5 vs Honor 8 Pro vs LG G6: Price, specifications and features compared

Here’s how the newly launched Nokia 8 competes with other dual camera flagship smartphones in its price range.

HMD Global has finally brought its highly anticipated flagship Nokia 8 smartphone to the Indian shores. The smartphone features a metal unibody design, dual cameras with Carl ZEISS lens, Snapdragon 835 SoC and more. Nokia 8 also runs stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. In its price range, the smartphone will compete with the likes of OnePlus 5, Honor 8 Pro and LG G6. We pitted all four smartphones based on their price specifications and features, and here’s how they fare.

Price and availability

The Nokia 8 is priced at Rs 36,999 and will be available starting October 14 via Amazon India and offline retailers. The Honor 8 Pro and OnePlus 5 are both available exclusively via Amazon India. The OnePlus 5 is offered in two variants – 6GB RAM with 64GB onboard storage priced at Rs 32,999, and 8GB RAM with 128GB storage priced at Rs 37,999. The Honor 8 Pro, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 29,999. The LG G6, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 35,900 and can be purchased from Amazon India, Flipkart and offline retailers.

Display

The Nokia 8 flaunts a 5.3-inch QHD display with brightness that can notch up to 700nits. The Honor 8 Pro also comes with a QHD display, but the screen size is 5.7-inch. The LG G6, on the other hand, features a 5.7-inch QHD+ with a resolution of 2880×1440 pixels, and aspect ratio of 18:9 (or 2:1) and pixel density of 564ppi. LG has managed to fit it in a 5.2-inch body, maintaining a compact form factor and the display also supports HDR10 to enhance the image quality.

Chipset, RAM and Storage

Both, the Nokia 8 and OnePlus 5 are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC, whereas the Honor 8 Pro is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 960 octa-core chipset. As mentioned earlier, the OnePlus 5 comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage, and the other variant comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage. Sadly, there is no option for expandable storage. The LG G6, on the other hand, is powered Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 821 quad-core SoC build on 14nm process and it is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB on-board storage variants. A hybrid microSD card slot for further expansion is also present.

Cameras

One of the key highlights of the Nokia 8 is the dual-camera setup at the back with Carl ZEISS lens. The camera setup includes two 13-megapixel sensors – one for capturing photos in RGB (color), and the other in monochrome. The color sensor also comes with optical image stabilization, PDAF and aperture f/2.0. The Honor 8 Pro comes with a pair of 12-megapixel cameras of aperture f/2.2 – one is an RGB sensor and the other is monochrome. On the front, it has an 8-megapixel snapper of aperture f/2.0. The OnePlus 5, on the other hand, comes features a 20-megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture, which serves as the primary sensor. The second is a 16-megapixel Sony IMX350 sensor of aperture f/2.6, and it is a telephoto lens allowing for 2X zooming capabilities. Up front, the smartphone houses a 16-megapixel camera for selfies. The LG G6 flaunts a dual-camera setup at the back — featuring two 13-megapixel sensors. Out of the two, one is a wide-angle lens with field of view of 125-degrees and aperture f/2.4, whereas the other is a standard lens with field of view of 71-degrees, aperture f/1.8 and optical image stabilization (OIS). Up front is a 5-megapixel snapper of aperture f/2.2 is also present for selfies and video calling.

Battery

The Nokia 8 comes with the smallest battery capacity among the three. It is armed with a 3,090mAh battery with Quick Charge feature. The OnePlus 5 has a slightly larger 3,000mAh battery with Dash Charging feature, whereas the Honor 8 Pro comes with a massive 4,000mAh battery, and it also supports fast charging. The LG G6 is armed with a 3,330mAh battery with fast charging capabilities.

Connectivity

All four smartphones feature dual SIM card support, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. They also feature USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer.

Operating System

One of the key highlights of the Nokia 8 is that it runs Stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS. Nokia is also promising to release the Android O OS as soon as Google releases it. The OnePlus 5 also runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with OxygenOS, whereas the Honor 8 Pro runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with Emotion UI 5.1. The LG G6 also runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat with a layer of LG’s custom UI on top.

All fur smartphones come with fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication. Nokia 8 is splash resistant, and also features three microphones for audio recording. It makes use of Nokia’s OZO Audio technology for capture audio with 360-degree spatial surround sound. LG G6, on the other hand, comes with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
