For quite some time now, HMD Global has been rumored to be developing a new flagship smartphone. There have been numerous leaks and speculations regarding the top-of-the-line smartphones, which is likely to bear the moniker Nokia 9 PureView. Earlier reports had claimed that the smartphone would launch sometime this year, but it seems we’ll have to wait a little longer.
According to a report by Phone Arena, Britta Gerbracht, HMD Global’s head of PR in Germany, recently confirmed to German media that a high-end smartphone is expected to launch early in 2019. Gerbracht reportedly also mentioned the name ‘Nokia 9’ quite a few times, thus confirming that the flagship smartphone is indeed a real thing.
Going further, the PR head admitted that there had been some delays with the launch of Nokia’s upcoming top-tier smartphone. It was mentioned that HMD Global wants to focus on the quality of their next flagship, and the company wasn’t happy with the camera performance of the smartphone. This eventually led to the device’s released getting postponed further.
It’s good that HMD Global is taking all the steps to ensure that Nokia 9 PureView ends up becoming a class-leading flagship smartphone. In fact, the company taking the extra time to work on the smartphone’s camera performance makes perfect sense, given that Nokia 9 PureView is expected to be an imaging powerhouse packing an unprecedented penta-lens camera system at the back.
