Another brand to join the in-screen fingerprint sensor parade is Nokia. HMD Global is reportedly looking at introducing the feature in its upcoming Nokia 9 smartphone. With an in-screen fingerprint sensor, it is possible for device makers to further thin down on the bezels, without compromising on the security.
According to a report on the NokiaPowerUser, the upcoming smartphone will not only have an in-screen sensor for biometric authentication, but the company is also looking at maximizing the display area on the 2018 line of smartphone, by introducing the famed ‘notch’ design.
To recall, HMD Global was expected to introduce the Nokia 9 at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018). However, that did not happen. The company instead chose to launch the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 Nokia 1, and the Nokia 8110 4G feature phone at the event.
As for the Nokia 9, it is long-rumored that one of the most interesting features of the smartphone will be a penta-lens setup, by ZEISS. The smartphone has been subject to a number of leaks in the past. Based on those, it is also likely to be the first Nokia smartphone to be powered by the Ozo Audio 3D technology.
It is expected that the Nokia 9 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. Some reports in the past indicated that it will feature a dual-camera setup at the back including a pair of 13-megapixel sensors. The camera module is said to be vertically positioned, similar to the Nokia 8. It is said to further pack a 5.5-inch OLED display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. As there is no official information, it is advisable to take the information with the proverbial grain of salt.
Having said that, what we do know is the HMD Global’s MWC lineup is set to make its debut in India. A company representative revealed that the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6, and Nokia 1 smartphones will be available sometime in April, whereas the Nokia 8110 4G will be available starting May.
