The $350 million deal signed with Nokia gives HMD the right to exclusively use the iconic Finnish branding on its upcoming smartphones and tablets for the next 10 years. HMD already had the rights to use Nokia branding for feature phones. In essence, for every product sold under Nokia brand, HMD will be paying royalty to Nokia. The first-half 2017 time frame adds weight to rumors about the possibility of new Nokia devices being unveiled at MWC 2017 in Barcelona in February.
