Ever since Apple introduced Animojis animated emoticons that mimic users facial expressions with the iPhone X, numerous Android manufacturers have (unsurprisingly) introduced their own versions of the feature as if it s the best thing since sliced bread. With its recently-launched Nokia 6.1 Plus, HMD Global also jumped onto the bandwagon, bringing 3D Personas that map users facial expressions using the smartphone s front-facing camera. Now, you can use the feature even if you don t have a Nokia 6.1 Plus.
According to a report by XDA Developers, one of the website s recognized contributors, going by the name linuxct, has ported the Nokia Camera app (v91.9), allowing you to use 3D Personas on other smartphones, as long as they have Android 8.0 Oreo (or later) running. That said, linuxct notes that the feature may not work on all smartphones as it hasn t been extensively tested.
The ported Nokia Camera app features a Pro mode with a refreshed design. It comes with Slow Motion and Time-lapse modes, but these aren t guaranteed to work on all non-Nokia smartphones either.
In related news, HMD Global seems to be planning to launch a new smartphone Nokia 7.1 Plus. The Finnish company recently started sending out invites for an event, scheduled to take place in London on October 4, 2018, where it may launch the smartphone.
