HMD Global has already confirmed it will be launching Android-based smartphones under Nokia brand early next year. According to a report on TheAndroidSoul, the Nokia D1C could be offered in two variants one targeted towards the mid-range segment, and other with slightly powerful hardware targeted towards the high-end range. The first real-life photos of the Nokia D1C have also surfaced, coming right from a production site or a lab in China. As we can see in the photo, the selfie camera module, earpiece, proximity sensor and Nokia branding is just above the display, whereas the capacitive touch buttons for home, back and app switcher are placed below the display. The photo itself is a little blurry, but the screen seems to be covered with a 2.5D curved glass. In another leak, firmware build of the device has also leaked, hinting that it may be the Nokia E1 and not D1C. However, there is no official clarity as of now, and it all seems speculative.
Nokia D1C specifications
From the rumors and leaked specifications that we have come across so far, the budget variant of Nokia D1C will be priced around Rs 10,000. Citing sources in China, the publication also reports that the smartphone could be powered by Qualcomm s Snapdragon 600-series SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. In terms of display, one variant could feature a 5-inch full HD panel, whereas the other variant could feature a slightly larger 5.5-inch full HD panel.
In the photography department, rumors hint at a 13-megapixel rear camera on the budget variant paired with an 8-megapixel selfie snapper. The other variant could sport a slightly higher resolution 16-megapixel rear camera. On the software front, both smartphones are expected to run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.
Other details about the battery capacity, connectivity options are missing at the moment. There is also no word on the launch date yet. However, with Nokia holding a press conference at CES 2017 in Las Vegas early next month, it could be where the company might make the smartphone official. While everyone has been waiting for Nokia s comeback, the company will need more than Nokia s legacy to succeed with its Android smartphones. Chinese rival brands such as OPPO, Vivo, Gionee, OnePlus and Xiaomi has already flourished in the Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000 bracket, and just playing the price vs specifications may not be enough. It remains to be seen how different the experience of using a Nokia-Android smartphone will be compared to others.
