Nokia today launched the Lumia 720 in India, which will succeed the Lumia 710. With this launch, Nokia now has five Windows Phone 8 smartphones, including the Lumia 920, Lumia 820, Lumia 620 and Lumia 520, the latter also announced today. The Lumia 720 brings in many interesting features and a premium design, which would compete aggressively with mid-end Android smartphones, most of which are already a generation old and belong there due to price erosion rather than being new launches. However, the highlights of the Lumia 720 will be its cameras and battery performance. It features a 6.7-megapixel wide-angle camera at the rear with a 1/1.36″ sensor size with backside illumination and an aperture of f/1.9, which is a rarity at this price point. The front 1.3-megapixel wide-angle camera is optimized for HD video calling and comes with an interesting Glam lens app for taking self-portraits. Nokia is also touting a 2,000 mAh battery, which is says should be good enough for up to 24.3 hours of 2G calls, 13.4 hours of 3G calls or 79 hours of music playback. If the device performs as claimed, this could be the first Windows Phone device to be able to see through a day of usage.
