All eyes are set for Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 when one of the most anticipated brands Nokia is scheduled to make a grand comeback in the mobile business. HMD Global, which will start selling Nokia-branded smartphones in the coming year, is expected to take the wraps off not three but up to five new Android smartphones at the yearly conference. Until now, there have been widespread rumors about Nokia D1C smartphone that would show up at the MWC 2017. Now, reports have hinted at four more handsets that will be available in the mid-range segment. A report on GSMArena notes that the purported smartphones will feature displays between 5-inch and 5.7-inch offering Wide Quad HD or full HD resolutions. These smartphones will be in addition to the Nokia Pixel, Nokia D1C, and Nokia Z2 Plus devices which have been previously spotted online. To recall, the Nokia D1C which had been earlier assumed to be a tablet device- will be available in two variants and is speculated to be the most affordable of all Nokia devices scheduled for the MWC release. The Android 7.0 Nougat-powered smartphone will feature a 5-inch HD display. It will come powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.4GHz and paired with Adreno 505 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It will further include 16GB of internal storage. On the camera front, it will come with a 13-megapixel rear shooter and an 8-megapixel front snapper. It is expected to be priced at $150 (Rs 10,000 approximately).
A second variant of the Nokia D1C will differ in terms of display, RAM, and camera. It will feature a 5.5-inch HD display and have the same chipset as the 5-inch variant. However, it will come with 3GB of RAM. In the photography segment, the smartphone will come with a 16-megapixel rear camera while the selfie shooter will remain the same at 8-megapixel. Another Nokia smartphone, dubbed Nokia Pixel, had been recently spotted on benchmarking website Geekbench, which revealed its key specifications and features. Although the benchmarks hint at an entry-level smartphone, there have been leaks which suggest that Nokia could choose to reveal a premium variant of the same model. The purported Nokia Pixel smartphone is likely to boast premium features in terms of display and camera quality.
Based on the leaks, the smartphone will boast a quad HD resolution display, and Snapdragon 835 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM. It could further come with a 23-megapixel Carl Zeiss rear camera with LED flash and 4K recording capabilities. It is further expected to sport a metal unibody design and have water-resistant capabilities. In terms of connectivity, it will come equipped with support for 4G LTE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. Till now, there haven t been any details about the battery capacity, however, it is rumored to support Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Based on the speculations, prices of the premium-variant could start at Rs 30,000 approximately.
The third Nokia smartphone, dubbed Nokia Z2 Plus, has also been spotted on benchmarking website Geekbench. Based on the leaks, the smartphone achieves a single-core test score of 2,156 and a multi-core test score of 5,217. The details further reveal that the Nokia Z2 Plus will come powered by a Qualcomm quad-core processor clocked at 1.77GHz. The motherboard is listed as MSM8996, or in other words, Qualcomm s Snapdragon 820 chipset. Running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box, the smartphone is further listed as having 4GB of RAM.
While all of these are speculations and one needs to wait for the official word to substantiate the claims, it would be interesting to see how well Nokia places these smartphone in the market where it will make a comeback after two years of sabbatical.
