While there has been some confusion around the name of the new Nokia smartphone that’s due to launch on May 16, we finally have a confirmed name. According to a report by Nokia Power User, the new smartphone from HMD Global-owned Nokia is expected to be called the Nokia X6, and none of the other possibilities that have been floating around of late.
The confirmation comes in the form of a leaked Bluetooth certification report. The listing for HMD Global mentions the Nokia 7 Plus as the last device to be listed for certification, back in March. The latest entry is dated May 9, and mentions the name of the devices as ‘Nokia X6’ thus practically confirming the name of the device. Additionally, the phone has a model number of TA-1099. The phone is expected to be launched on May 16, and not much is known about it beyond the renders that show it with a notched display.
The decision to go with the notch follows a bunch of manufacturers, including the upcoming OnePlus 6 and Honor 10, both of which are confirmed to be sporting the notch. While the Honor 10 is set to launch on May 15, the OnePlus 6 will be unveiled on May 16. However, while those two devices will sport flagship features and specifications, the Nokia X6 is expected to be a mid-range smartphone. It will thus more closely compete against the Oppo F7 and Vivo V9.

The Nokia X6 is currently expected to be powered by a mid-range chipset, which will likely be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636. It will also likely come with a 5.8-inch full-HD+ screen. RAM is expected to range from 3GB to 6GB, while storage will be in two variants of 32GB and 64GB. We’ll find out more in the coming days, and at the launch of the new smartphone itself.
