After initial rumors and reports that the Nokia X could launch on April 27, it now seems that a launch on May 16 is more likely. Additional details of the upcoming phone have also emerged. While it isn’t confirmed if the phone will be called the Nokia X or the Nokia X6, it does seem that a launch event in China has been planned for the phone.
The company has posted a photo of its upcoming smartphone on its Weibo page, showcasing a notched-display that occupies nearly the entire front of the phone. The legendary Nokia logo finds a spot right below the screen. The specifications of the device aren’t known, but the screen could be a 5.8-inch full-HD+ screen with a 19:9 aspect ratio, Android One software powered by Android 8.1 Oreo for now and mid-range specifications that could see the phone come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600-series chipset (either the Snapdragon 636 or Snapdragon 660) along with up to 6GB of RAM.
As per additional teasers spotted on Nokia’s Weibo page, we could also see the coming of a refreshed Nokia N-series device. The Nokia N8 was a popular device launched by the old Nokia back in 2010, and was one of the last successful Symbian-powered devices by the company.

The new HMD Global-owned Nokia has been seeking to bring back some older models in new light, aiming to target the element of nostalgia among users. This showed in the launch of the Nokia 3310 last year, as well as the Nokia 8110 and Nokia 8 Sirocco this year. An N-series device powered by Android could work well in this sense.
If HMD Global does indeed launch the new Nokia X / Nokia X6 and N-series devices on May 16, it’ll be going head-to-head with two other major smartphone manufacturers for attention during the same period. Huawei-owned Honor will be announcing the Honor 10 on May 15, while the OnePlus 6 is scheduled for a launch on May 16. Whatever happens, that will be an exciting week for smartphones.
