At the sidelines of iPads launch, Apple also announced the public availability of its desktop operating system OS X Yosemite. The new operating system brings with it a slew of new features and improvements, and while it supports an array number of computers, not all will be able to enjoy all of Yosemite features.

In a guide posted on Apple’s website on helping users install the update, the company has mentioned the features that won’t be available to all the Mac users. First off, the Handoff and the Instant Hotspot features will only work on Macbook and iMac models that have come out in or after 2012. Whereas Mac Pro users need to have the model released in late 2013 to be able to use these services.

Similarly, the phone calling feature dubbed Continuity will require users to have an iPhone with iOS 8 running, whereas the SMS feature will require iOS 8.1, which the company will release shortly. AirDrop feature will also require users to have MacBook (Air, Pro) and iMac (/mini) models released in 2012 or later, and Mac Pro of late 2013. AirDrop between two Mac computers, on the other hand supports all MacBook Pro and Macbook Air models, and Macbook released in late 2008 or newer, as well as several outdated Mac mini and Mac Pro. And in order to pair them with your iOS devices, users will need to make sure that the operating system installed on them is iOS 7 or later.

AirPlay Mirroring supports a wide range of devices, including MacBook Pro from early 2011 (or newer), MacBook Air from Mid 2011 (or newer), iMac from mid 2011 (or newer), Mac mini from mid 2011 or newer, and Mac Pro of late 2013. Another feature Power Nap only works on models of MacBook Air released in 2010 or later, MacBook Pro with Retina, iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro from late 2013.
